We'll come is well worth asking for

THIS column's selections in the first two Classics of the season came good with Henrythenavigator 11/1 being the each way selection in the 2,000 Guineas and the French trained Natagora coming out on top in the 1,000guineas.

Flushed with success, and hopeful we can sort out another winner or two, the action this weekend is scheduled for Ascot, Nottingham and Lingfield with evening meetings at Warwick and Thirsk.

With the forecast of a warm dry week the going at Ascot could well be on the quick side for their feature race the Victoria Cup, run over seven furlongs.

Local interest in the race is provided by the Roger Charlton trained Presumptive, who could be worth an each way bet, but in a competitive field the column's selection is for the Michael Jarvis trained We'll Come, the mount of Darryll Holland.

The meetings gets underway with the Listed Buckhounds Stakes that could go to Ivy Creek at rewarding odds while later in the afternoon Gala Evening could chalk up three wins on the trot for Wroughton trainer Jim Old and jockey Richard Hughes.

Channel 4 cameras will be at Nottingham for three races beginning with the one mile, six furlong handicap at 2.25 where the Henry Cecil trained Wraith could be a likely winner. The action from Lingfield begins at 2.10 with a Conditions Stakes that could go to Drumfire while the Oaks Trial Stakes may be one for the Sir Michael Stoute trained Sovereign's Honour, the mount of Ryan Moore.

Keen racing fans will have the notebooks at the ready for the Group 3 totesport.com Derby Trial. Many top stables will be represented in the Classic trial field, the selection being the Godolphin trained Campanologist, the mount of Frankie Dettori.

Broad Hinton trainer Andy Turnell has Spanish Cruise entered in the Maiden Stakes at 4.20, ridden by Alan Daly and could be worth an each way interest.

At Warwick's evening meeting Ravin Mad could be one for former Manton trainer Peter Chapple- Hyam and at Thirsk Alexander Huricane could win the Dick Peacock Sprint Handicap.

Beckhampton trainer Roger Charlton saddled three winners in two days when Proponent won the first race on the card at Newmarket on Saturday and followed with 17/1 double on Monday.

After a slowish start to the new season the Beckhampton handler saddled a promising newcomer when Fault won the two year old Maiden at Windsor, with some pundits stamping him as one of the best two year old colt seen out this season.

Jockey Steve Drowne decided to jump off in front and he was never headed coming home two and three-quarter lengths in front of Doc Jones with the jockey not having to ask the colt any real questions.

It was the yards first juvenile runner of the season with the trainer saying he has a very nice temperament as well as a good attitude. He is easily the sharpest I've got,'' he said.

Steve Drowne had a far from comfortable ride on the stable's second leg of the double on Mooted. He twice unshipped his jockey before the race and ran loose but recovered to beat Pippbrook Gold in the one mile maiden.

The trainer said: Considering he got loose it was a fair effort.'' Tennis mad owner John Livock, owner of Fault, who names his horses with a tennis theme, was the owner of Third Set who won his last three races for Charlton who said: He is a very lucky owner for us, the last four runners for John have won.''
