Hello Man’s Lingfield victory is worth the wait for Sweeting
Lockeridge trainer Heidi Sweeting had a welcome change of luck at Lingfield when her charge Lucayos gained a short head 10/1 victory over Hello Man with Harry Up a further short head adrift in third spot.
It was the trainer's first winner since July. She said: Of course we are delighted with the victory, he seems to like Lingfield and was given a good ride by Kylie Manser in a blanket finish.
Some of the horses have been taking a break and we have only had about 20 runners since July. We will have a few runners on the all weather during the Winter with Lucayos probably going again at Lingfield in a couple of weeks time.
Hopefully we won't have to wait so long for our next winner.''
Also in the winners' enclosure was Rockley trainer Norma Pook who trained 4/1 Chico Time to win the Mares Only Beginners Chase at Folkestone on Monday.
Two lengths adrift over the last the mare rallied strongly to get up in the final 50 yards for victory.
A winner of an Irish point to point she was rated 101 over hurdles but her future could well be over the bigger obstacles.
The delighted trainer said: She has schooled brilliantly and we though Monday would be her day. She stays much further than today's race, but she has to go right handed.''
It was the fourth winner for the trainer since her move to Temple Farm Rockley earlier in the year.
This weekend Sandown hosts the feature race on Saturday, the Grade 1 Paddy Power Tingle Creek Chase. The race looks all set to be a cracking contest.
With Paul Nicholls picking up a big pay day in the Hennessy with Denman last Saturday he could well add another big prize to his tally.
The Somerset yard could well be represented by Denmans next door neighbour Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Kauto Star. The horses are in adjoining boxes at the trainer's Ditcheat yard and if they could speak, Denman would probably be saying it's your turn this week to pay for the corn''.
In a surprise move Nicholls has entered Kauto Star for the race together with another up and coming star Twist Magic and Hoo La Baloo. He explained to the racing press that Kauto was fine and if the ground came up soft or worse he would have the option.
Likely to be up against the Somerset trio is the Barbary Castle-trained Voy Por Ustedes, who finished runner up to Kauto Star in last year's race and ran a cracker in his seasonal reappearance at Cheltenham.
He just failed to give the winner Kalca Mome 26lb.
Also in the line up could be Monet's Garden, who defeated Kauto Star at Aintree, together with stablemate Turpin Green. Both were reported fit and well by trainer Nicky Richards.
Should Kauto Star not make it to the start, which is likely, the column's selection is Voy Por Ustedes with Twist Magic a big danger. The Tingle Creek is the second of four races televised by Channel 4 and fans could be in for another treat.
Other meetings are scheduled for Chepstow where the best bet could be Noble Action in the three mile chase, the mount of amateur Mr J Guerriero, who has been among the winners lately with his useful 7lb claim.
Wetherby's seven race card gets under way at 12.10 , with their last two races covered by Channel 4. Medison, the mount of Graham Lee and Here-
comestanley could be the ones to be on in the televised races.
All weather action comes from Lingfield where it could pay to have an interest on the Gary Moore trained Waterside, the mount of George Baker and at Wolver-hampton's evening meeting Tous Le Doux could be given a good chance.
There is just enough time for racing fans to send for the Injured Jockeys Christmas cards which depicts on the front Shivering in the String , Peter Chapple Hyam and his horses at Newmarket last winter.
They can be ordered on 08080 453 453 or at www.ijf.org.uk
