NELL: Disappointing start to year

After a good win at the end of 2009, it was a disappointment to lose the first three games of this year.

We were beaten 3-1 at Guildford on New Year’s Day, lost 5-2 to the same team on Saturday and then lost 7-3 at home to Bracknell on Sunday.

We actually played well in the first two games and it was encouraging because Guildford are the best team in the league.

In the 3-1 loss we only went behind to a penalty shot and a short-handed goal, so it wasn’t a convincing victory for them.

We were also without our top defenceman Jan Krajicek, which didn’t help.

Of course, results matter and unfortunately we didn’t pick up any positive ones.

It was Sunday that was the real disappointment because Bracknell are our big rivals for the play-offs.

We looked tired and it’s no surprise considering the amount of games we’ve played recently.

We’ve got Basingstoke at home on Saturday and then travel to Slough on Sunday.

We’re looking for a minimum of two points from those two games and that’s our target for any weekend.
