NELL: Luck is not with us

12:40pm Thursday 5th November 2009

WE should have beaten Milton Keynes on Wednesday night but we were edged out 3-2.

I thought we dominated the majority of the game and were able to control one of the best top teams in the league, but at the moment we’re lacking consistency.

We were down to the bare bones with only two defenders in the squad.

Wayne Fiddes, Gareth Endicott, Andrew Finn and Jan Krajicek. were all still out injured.

We weren’t helped by the fact that Joe Baird broke a skate in the warm-up and was therefore unable to play.

Head coach Ryan Aldridge, who wants to hang up his skates, had to play, which he is happy to do when we need him.

We brought Ryan in as head coach and would prefer to give him the time to concentrate on his coaching duties – but at the moment we have so many injuries.

Again on Sunday, we had a depleted squad but were unlucky not to win against Manchester.

We took the lead by the end of the first period but at the moment we just can’t get over the line – it’s just one of those things.

With about five minutes to go they called a time out, which is very unusual considering they were winning 6-4.

But it shows how much pressure we were putting them under. I think if we had grabbed a goal back we could have won the game.

We just need a little bit of consistency and a little bit of luck. Once we get that I think we can match any team in this league.

Saturday against Guilford will be a good starter for us because they are one of the best teams in the league, then we travel to Romford on Sunday.

Joe Baird should have got some new skates by then and we will also welcome back Gareth Endicott and Jan Krajicek. from a knee injury and concussion respectively, which will be a big boost.
