Haydock stages an attractive fixture this weekend with the feature races on the card the Group Two Temple Stakes and the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes.
Also on the card is the Betfred Silver Bowl, a Heritage Handicap run over a mile.
The five furlong Temple Stakes has attracted some smart sprinters and could prove to be a difficult race for backers to solve.
Borderlescott has had his fair share of success over the sprint distance and could go well, as could the Dandy Nicholls trained Tax Free, the Godolphin entry Dandy Man and the column’s tentative selection Reverence, the mount of Eddie Ahern.
The Cecil Frail Stakes for Fillies and Mares over six furlongs looks another tricky affair with Mullein, trained by Ralph Beckett and ridden by Seb Sanders, and the Jeremy Noseda trained Adorn, ridden by Ryan Moore expected to be in the shake up. However trainer in form Tom Dascombe has Max One Two Three entered and the four-year-old, if producing the form she showed as a youngster, carry’s the columns selection following a close-up fourth last time out.
Channel 4 cameras will be on hand to televise the first four races on the card, beginning with the Betfred The Bonus King Handicap over seven furlongs that could go to former Manton trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam with Exceptional Art, the mount of Alan Munro.
Later in the afternoon the formidable duo of trainer Sir Michael Stoute and jockey Ryan Moore could be in the winners’ enclosure with Highland Glen in the mile-and-a-half handicap, the penultimate race on the card.
Channel 4 will also be at Newmarket for their first three races, beginning with the Listed Fairway Stakes over one mile two furlongs.
Newmarket trainer Henry Cecil has Father Time entered and could well be the one to be on with Your Old Pal, Holberg and Palavicini likely looking dangers.
The Listed King Charles II Stakes has attracted some smart performers from some of the top stables with Godolphin represented by Donativum, the mount of Frankie Dettori. The in-form Barry Hills yard has Alyarf ridden by son Michael, the local Manton yard of Brian Meehan is represented by Nasri, and Peter Chapple- Hyam by Mishrif.
However the column’s selection is for the Mark Johnston trained Proclaim, the mount of Greg Fairley.
Later on the card John Gosden could keep his purple patch going by winning the two-year-old Maiden Stakes with Running Mateand, the last race on the card to the Alan King trained Silk Hall, beaten by a nose on his last appearance.
Yorkshire race-goers are catered for with a meeting at Beverley where Antonius Moris could be another for Lambourn trainer Tom Dascombe, while at Catterick veteran Nawamees could prove difficult to beat in the toteplacepot Selling Stakes.
Jumping fans are catered for with evening meetings at Stratford and at Cartmel.
Champion jockey AP McCoy could get his army of fans off to a good start at Stratford by winning the first race on the card on the James Fanshawe trained Kingscape.
Local jockey George Baker found himself in the limelight at Leicester on Tuesday evening when he rode George Baker, for trainer George Baker, to third place at 33/1.
