Leeds and England winger Ryan Hall has been tipped to make a big success of his switch to the NRL after agreeing a move to Sydney Roosters.

The 30-year-old has been a prolific try-scorer in Super League, where he needs four tries to reach 200 and move into second place behind former Leeds team-mate Danny McGuire in the all-time list.

But he spoke of his desire for a new challenge in rejecting the Rhinos’ offer of a new contract, and on Thursday the Roosters announced he has agreed a two-year deal with them from 2019.

Roosters recruitment manager Adam Hartigan said: “Ryan has expressed a desire to test himself in the NRL and we are pleased to have secured his services.”

Hall will hope to have better luck than another England winger, Joe Burgess, who joined the Roosters from Wigan on a three-year deal in in 2016 but was released inside 12 months after making just four appearances.

Hartigan added: “A natural finisher blessed with size, speed and strength, we believe that Ryan will be a terrific fit within our squad and we look forward to welcoming him to the club later this year.”

Hall, who will be a straight replacement for Kangaroos winger Blake Ferguson when he departs for Parramatta, will join a host of current England team-mates in the NRL, including Gareth Widdop, James Graham and the Burgess brothers.

He won over a host of new admirers in Australia during England’s run to the 2017 World Cup final and in Denver last month took his phenomenal try tally for his country to 35 in 38 appearances by scoring in the win over New Zealand.

Domestically, Hall has registered 231 tries in 327 appearances so far for his home-town club since making his debut in 2007.

He has won six Grand Final rings and and two Challenge Cups but is currently battling to help the reigning champions avoid a bottom-four finish for the second time in three years.
