Rossiter: Robins are not a one man team
Speedway: Alun Rossiter has dismissed suggestions his Swindon Robins are a one man team ahead of their first home meet of the new season.
Captain Leigh Adams' 17-point haul against Eastbourne Eagles in Monday's Craven Shield means the Robins go into tonight's second leg at Blunsdon just 11 points behind, trailing 52-41.
But team boss Rossiter feels new boys Travis McGowan, Troy Batchelor, James Wright and Theo Pijper will prove their worth.
"It is going to be a pendulum early on and then we are going to build up momentum," he said.
"It's going to take a few weeks to get over the edginess and the nervousness because they will putting pressure on themselves to perform.
"But we are not a one man team. I disagree with people who say that and they should wait until we get going.
"Riders are coming into a new club and feel they have a lot to prove."
It is a new team but the same pressure for success applies after last season's Elite League final defeat to Coventry.
Rossiter said: "Everyone is comparing us to last year, which is a problem. Because we were so successful there is a pressure to do well."
After tonight, The Robins meet Coventry at home on Sunday and away on Monday for the first time since their galling 102-83 defeat last year.
They then complete their Craven Shield duties against Poole at the end of next week.
The Elite League starts on Thursday, April 3 at home to Belle Vue.
"The league is the priority but the shield is a good way to clear the cobwebs and then people will see these racing Robins go," said Rossiter.
