A record start to Combe season
A record number of drivers are set to descend on Castle Combe for the start of the 2008 season on Monday.
The Classic Saloon race day kicks off the year at the popular circuit and, coupled with 300 driver entries, more than 5,000 are expected to attend the Easter meet.
The Formula Ford 1600 is just one of the ten races that opens the track's season.
Rodney Gooch, sales and marketing manager at the circuit, said: "Drivers might only have one chance to come to Castle Combe in a season because we only host nine meets. If you are a petrol head it is the first adrenaline shot you will have had for months."
He feels Lewis Hamilton's winning start to the Formula One season could entice more spectators.
"Lewis Hamilton winning does not do us any harm, it keeps motor racing on the back pages and keeps us in mind," he said.
Combe resident and racer Andy Jones, who is taking part in the Formula Ford 1600 and the new Golden Helmet race, is eager to get started. He said: "Once Christmas is over you can't wait. The majority of presents are racing stuff, so you can't use them until the season starts."
