Adams happy to be daddy cool
Speedway: Leigh Adams says he is relishing his role as a father figure in the youthful Swindon Robins set up and is predicting a bright future for the club.
The 36-year-old Australian believes the Blunsdon outfit will "explode" once the Elite League season begins next month at home to Belle Vue.
Captain Adams is looking for a response tonight as they host Eastbourne Eagles in the Craven Shield second leg, after losing the first leg on Monday, but is also preparing to take the youngsters under his wing.
"I take it all pretty seriously. We have got a lot of young kids and we could be very strong," he said.
"If I can help them in their races and off the track then I will. I probably am a father figure.
"It is more of a challenge from last season but it is pretty cool because there are more Aussies so the atmosphere is awesome.
"I haven't raced with so many in a long time."
And Adams predicts new signings, and fellow Australians, Troy Batchelor and Travis McGowan, along with James Wright and Theo Pijper will help the team to success this season.
He said: "It is going to be a good one.
"We are just going to explode if they are hitting full form.
"We are a little bit of an unknown team and people will be wary and unsure of what we can do.
"But we have got to get the best out of all the guys and I am quite sure we will do. It will be frightening.
"I would love to have success for Swindon.
I am around the town all the time and everyone is talking about the new season."
Now though, the immediate issue is to defeat Eastbourne at Blunsdon tonight, after their 52-41 reverse in the first leg.
Adams said: "Everyone wanted to get racing on Monday, that was the big thing.
"It's a hard place to go at the best of times.
"We started pretty poorly and had some bad luck but next time it is going to be a different race."
