THE battle for the Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 championship continues apace at the Wiltshire circuit's ‘Jubilee Race Day’ on Monday (June 4).

The championship has seen three different winners in the first three races, with the series leader yet to top the podium.

Fresh from winning the last race is Bratton's Ben Norton in the Wiltshire College Spectrum who, after struggling in the first two races, saw everything come together in race three with an amazing pass on Saltford's Steven Jensen around the outside of Tower.

Jensen’s defeat completed his hat-trick of runner up places, giving the Kevin Mills Racing (KMR) team driver a single-point overall lead.

Teammate Roger Orgee, from Langport (Van Diemen RF00 and Coventry’s Nathan Ward (KMR, Spectrum) remain in the hunt, while Yatton Keynell’s Luke Cooper is still in contention in the family Swift SC10.

After missing the first round, Bradford on Avon's David Vivian won both B class (pre 1996 cars) races last time out, going third in the class standings in his Swift SC92.

The Higgins brothers, Adam, from Chippenham, defending his title in his Van Diemen RF94 and brother Richard (Burnham on Sea) in an RF90 leading by one point, provide the opposition.

Corsham’s Will Di Claudio took his first outright victory in the Saloon Car championship race last time.

The win puts the class B Peugeot 106 former title holder in the outright lead, while Heddington’s Tony Hutchings will be keen to retain his class A lead after tasting outright victory for the first time in the last meeting.

Among those looking to deny him is Mark Funnell, from Trowbridge, in the Mini.

Southampton’s Gary Prebble leads the Vadabar Sports and GT championship but returning, having missed the first three rounds, is Trowbridge's Andrew Shanley in the Radical Prosport.

Monday’s action starts at 8.45am with qualifying. There’s a grid walkabout from noon and racing gets under way from 1pm.

Admission is £15 (adults), £7.50 (OAPs), £2.50 for paddock transfer and accompanied U16s go admitted free.
