MARLBOROUGH sidecar driver Roger Lovelock is sticking to his tried and tested formula when he chases the top prize in the new Eastern Airways British F1 Sidecar Championships.

The 48-year-old, who is a retained fireman and also runs a small business as a mechanic, makes up one half of Driverwolf Racing alongside passenger Rick Lawrence.

The new campaign kicks off tomorrow at Brand’s Hatch and Lovelock revealed that the Driverwolf team had not made any changes to their 1000cc Suzuki LCR, which saw them finish second overall behind former world champion Tim Reeves last year.

“There was quite a gap between us and third place last year and we were happy because halfway through, we were only in sixth after a few mishaps,” said the father of two.

“We were racing with problems for three quarters of last season before we hit the nail on the head and really pulled it out of the bag.

“So we haven’t really changed much at all with the car.

“We’ll stick to what’s tried and tested because other teams have big budgets and seem to have a bottomless pit to take money from. We don’t have that.

“We rely on what we’ve got and our driving skill to get us through. I definitely think that we’ve got what it takes to have another top-three finish and I’d love to win it.”

The Driverwolf duo won the 2006 European Championships and the 2009 British Championships.
