CHIPPENHAM schoolboy Dominic Kilmister has been crowned Rissington Kart Club’s Formula Junior TKM champion for 2017 after a breathless end to the season at the annual Midland Championships festival at the Cotswold club.

Racing against a grid of 27 junior TKMs, including British champion Abbi Pulling, and second-placed James Pashley as well as another four of the top 10 seeds, the 13-year-old, managed four top-10 finishes in the heats and 13th and 15th places in the finals during the three-day event.

Combined with his victories and podium finishes from earlier in the season, those results were enough to seal his place as club champion before the second final began, eventually winning the championship by 115 points in what was his rookie season in the category.

Kilmister’s father Paul said: “We were amazed that he was so calm throughout the weekend.

“It was a lot of pressure, especially racing against the big names in the British Championship, but he took it all in his stride.

“Hopefully, this will stand him in good stead for next year when we are going to enter the British Championship SuperOne Series ourselves.’’

The family are now looking for local companies to sponsor the youngster and his kart during next year’s televised national series.
