LOUIS Harvey enjoyed a great weekend at the Rissington Championship earlier this month, landing a podium finish.

The race day was split into four heats and a final, with Harvey going in heats two, three and four.

In heat two the Malmesbury driver came through the pack to finish second, right on the back bumper of the leader.

For heat three Harvey had to settle for an eighth-place finish after getting stuck in traffic.

Harvey started third in the final heat but found himself slipping back to finish fifth, which qualified him for the final in the same position.

However, after the first lap Harvey was up into second. There then were a lot of positional changes, with the young driver finally coming in third out of 21.

The podium finish in his Ideal Display’s, Forces Reunited, Power Maxed racing, Demon Tweeks sponsored Shark Motorsport Kart moved him up into second in the championship, and Harvey has his sights set on racing in Formula One, according to his mum, Charlene.

“He has done brilliantly. He is starting to rack up the trophies now,” she said.

“I think he is running second of third in both the championships he is racing in at the moment.

“We were on holiday quite a few years ago down in Cornwall and there was one of those karting circuits that kids can go on and he went on and was just flying around the track and you could just see that he was naturally taking racing lines and just had so much confidence with i.

“When we got home we took him to the karting place at Hullavington and it all just started from there.

“We started chatting to people and they said that we need to get our own kart and start racing in championships.

“He is very good and has taken to it very well.

“Like all young boys he wants to get into F1 now.”
