THEIR best performance of the season so far saw Bassett cliinch victory in their Davis Wood League Avon Division clash in Swindon.

Returning goalkeeper Matt Thompson snuffed out early Wilts attacks and Bassett’s attacks came to fruition after a quarter of an hour as Kristian Mansfield faked a reverse strike, turned and powered a shot past the keeper.

Jake Nunns held the ball up on the edge of the D, twisted and turned and passed to man of the match Kyle Barnes to slot home the second on the stroke o half time.

Barnes added a second after the interval as Matt Daniell’s mazy run took him past several defenders before Barnes dispatched his pass.

Barnes was denied a hat-trick when the North Wilts keeper blocked his penalty-corner effort, but captain Mark Tolley followed up to put away the rebound.

Depleted Bassett earned a 1-1 draw at Bristol University C on Sunday, vice-captain Si Griffiths firing home the equaliser.
