WOOTTON Bassett’s promotion bid from the Davis Wood League Avon Division was held up on the road as they blew a three-goal lead.

Bassett made a blistering start, forcing a short corner in the opening couple of minutes that was expertly swept into the bottom corner by Mark Turner.

The away side continued to push forward and quickly scored a second when John MacLeod found the roof of the net.

Bassett were cruising and a clinical reverse stick effort from Matt Daniell made it 3-0.

Gryphons slowly rallied and netted just before the break.

They hosts started the second half with added vigour, but Bassett’s defence continued to to hold firm.

The game was set up for a dramatic conclusion when Gryphons converted a rebound for their second.

Both sides had further chances, but Gryphons finally made the breakthrough five minutes from time to earn a point.
