DEPLETED Devizes bounced back from their previous week’s defeat at Gloucester with an excellent display against the Davis Wood League Premier Division One’s third-placed side.

The real story of the day was Grant Humphries scoring the winner, having previously played for the first team six years ago.

Humphries was only playing due to travel issues with other players, but fired in the decisive strike with five minutes to go.

Robinsons started the stronger side and grabbed an early lead, but the hosts fought back and Matt Fairburn slotted home a fine reverse stick strike Devizes fell behind again in the second half, but pressured more as the half went on and Fairburn scored again from a short corner.

The game looked to be heading for a draw, but Charles Hanson picked up on a loose ball in midfield, put Sam Gaiger through down the right channel.

Gaiger squared the ball to comeback hero and man of the match Humphries, who calmly smashed it past the stranded goalkeeper.
