CHIPPENHAM A moved joint top on goal difference in the GoCrea8 League Central Two division as they claimed a dominant 1-0 victory over Westbury & United Banks B.

The home side enjoyed the lions’ share of possession and territory throughout the contest, but were unable to turn it into goals, failing to convert penalty corners and an open goal.

Midfielder Aled Evans also prevented Westbury from seizing the advantage with a superb goal-line stop as the first half ended goalless.

The second half continued in the same vein, until, with just seven minutes to play, the home side broke the deadlock when striker Nigel Stonham struck with a drag-flick from a penalty corner.

Chippenham B claimed their second home victory of the East Central One season as they saw off their Swindon counterparts 3-0.

Despite forcing a couple of short corners in the opening minutes the first half, it wasn’t until Alex Harrison finished that Chippenham opened the scoring as goalkeeper Leo Barker also needed to stay alert to keep out the visitors.

Chipenham continued to pressurise their visitors in the second period, creating chance after chance. Denied by a series of fine saves and last-minute tackles, a switcharound in personnel resulted in more attacking flair.

A fine ball in from Aaron Gray was expertly finished off by Simon Gubbin for the second and Chippenham went in for kill.

Elliott Jones missed a gilt-edged chance but Mike Riglar eventually added to the scoreline with a well-taken finish after a short corner.

In East Central Two, Chippenham’s C team were beaten 7-2 by their West Wilts counterparts, while the D side drew 2-2 with leaders Team Bath Buccs G.

Chippenham took the lead when a long clearance by Sean Lane found Neil Stewart who powered it into an empty net, but the visitors responded immediately to level.

Lane went close again before the interval but Bath seized the advantage after the break to go in front.

Chippenham though were not to be denied as Al Pidgeon scored the leveller from a penalty flick.
