CHIPPENHAM boosted their chances of survival in Conference North with a 3-2 victory at fellow strugglers Yate on Saturday.

The visitors started strongly but were unable to create any clear-cut chances leaving Yate able to take full advantage and open the scoring with a delightful drag flick.

Chippenham drew level when Mark Knight won a short corner and from the resulting set-piece, Knight slotted home the equaliser.

The visitors came out stronger in the second half and applied more pressure on the Yate defence, which allowed Luke Morris to pick out Knight to tap home his second of the match.

Despite Yate trying to find a way back into the match, Chippenham hit their hosts on the counter to make it 3-1 thanks to a fine shot from Craig Kilminster.

The hosts set up a nervy finish when they pulled a goal back with seven minutes left on the clock, but Chippenham held on for victory.

The following day, Chippenham suffered a 1-0 defeat at Firebrands A.

  •  Chippenham A stormed to a 6-1 success over Minehead in Central Two.

A brace from Archie Wright and a strike from Charlie Bizley gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Henry Price made it four after the break before Dewi Evans drilled home Chippenham’s fifth.

Minehead managed a late consolation goal before Price bagged his second to complete the rout.

  •  Chippenham B claimed a 3-2 East Central One success over Yate A thanks to goals from Josh Burrows, Simon Gubbin and Simon King.
  •  The Chippenham C side also picked up a 3-2 victory as they beat the club’s D team in East Central Two.

Tim McKendrick put the C team into the lead before Dave Lloyd levelled matters.

Martin Jackson restored the lead for the C outfit and then Charley Holtom made it 3-1 before Lloyd bagged his second of the match.

  •  Devizes suffered a 4-0 defeat at local rivals Swindon in Conference North.

After beating West Wilts in their previous outing, Devizes were hopeful of back-to-back wins, but despite a strong opening 20 minutes, the visitors were unable to prevent Swindon from taking the lead from close range.

Swindon doubled their advantage before half-time and the hosts grabbed two breakaway goals after the interval.

  •  Devizes 2nd XI also suffered a 4-0 derby defeat as they were beaten by Marlborough in East Central One.
