CHIPPENHAM began the second half of their first season in Conference North with a confidence-boosting 8-0 win at home to fellow strugglers Whitchurch A.

The home side were unable to make the most of their early opportunities but eventually, Ben Pitman-Jones opened the scoring by taking advantage of a statuesque defence after the ball had hit a foot.

Whitchurch continued to pressurise the Chippenham defence and created their own half-chances but could not find the target and Chippenham scored a second goal through Olly Whitaker.

With goalkeeper Leo Barker in fine form to keep Whitchurch out, Chippenham pulled clear in the second half.

Six more goals followed, Whitaker bagging a second, Mark Knight claiming a brace, while Craig Kilminster, James O’Keeffe and Tim Elliott were also on the scoresheet.

Chippenham A resumed their fixtures in fine form with a 5-0 victory away to bottom of the table Yeovil & Sherborne A in Central Two.

After a tentative start, Chippenham dominated the remainder of the match and the first goal came from a well-worked penalty corner as captain Darren Bean switched the ball to Andy Edwards, who swept it home.

Striker Archie Wright made it 2-0 to Chippenham about five minutes later when he collected a loose ball near the base line and with a reverse stick flick, found the goal from an acute angle.

The second half continued in the same manner, with Edwards capitalising on a rebound for the third, Wright adding a second to his tally and Jack Stanley completing the rout.

Chippenham B were beaten 4-1 by City of Bath B, despite a Simon Gubbin strike The C team were 3-2 winners over Bath Buccs G, with two goals from Ron Ousby and a Tim McKendrick strike.
