CHIPPENHAM were promoted as champions of the GoCrea8 League’s Central One division after earning a point away at bottom side Somerset Gryphons.

Mark Knight opened the scoring for Chippenham before half time.

Luke Morris extended the visitors lead early in the second half but Gryphons pulled one back from a penalty corner and then, with 10 minutes to go, levelled the score through a penalty stroke.

However, the 2-2 draw confirmed Chippenham’s title success and promotion to Conference North.

Chippenham A kept up their promotion challenge with victory over City of Bath B in East Central One.

After a goalless first period, it only took five minutes of the second half for Harry Elias to put the home side ahead, sweeping home a cross at close range.

Simon Walker added a second with a well-worked penalty corner move.

Guy Barrett wrapped up the game with 15 minutes to go, firing home from close range as Chippenham went second in the table.

Victory at North Wilts this weekend will see them promoted to Central Two.

At Bath Buccs F, Chippenham B had to work hard to get a vital point in their battle to avoid relegation.

Captain Ron Ousby fired home from a penalty corner but Bath levelled with 10 minutes left and Chippenham need a point against Marlborough A this weekend to avoid the drop.

Tom Styles netted for Corsham in their 8-1 reverse at the hands of West Wilts.

In East Central Two, Chippenham C came up against Bristol University D and slipped to an 8-3 defeat, Neil Stewart (two) and Steven Jackson with the goals.

Chippenham D lost 3-0 to East Central Two champions City of Bath C.

n CORSHAM Ladies were defeated 2-0 by North Wilts in the West Clubs League Wessex Division One.

However, the second string thrashed Winscombe 3 9-0 in Wessex Division Two, Georgina Doel scoring a hat-trick, Sophie Mumford and Joan Carpenter two each and Carla Reed and Morgan Golledge also netting.

Morgan Fletcher, twice, and Cheryl Noyce scored in the third team’s 3-0 win over Keynsham 3 in Wessex Division Three.
