JORDAN Smith was delighted to see all elements of his game come together despite narrowly missing out on a second European Tour title in China today.

A dramatic final-day charge wasn't quite enough for the Derry Hill man to claim his second European Tour title at the Volvo China Open as he finished tied third in Beijing, two shots behind tournament winner Sweden's Alexander Björk.

Smith had been on the fringes of contention at eight under par after three rounds of the event Topwin Golf & Country Club but carded a blistering final round of 64 to soar up the leaderboard.

The 25-year-old told europeantour.com: “I've been playing good all week and I just got the putter going today.

“In the last two weeks I've been hitting it really well, but just sort of struggling from 12 foot and in. But today I got it going.

“I'm really chuffed and over the moon with how the game is looking going into the main half of the season.’’

A superb bogey-free 18 holes saw Smith, who won the European Open in Germany last summer to clinch his first European Tour crown, take the lead in the event at one point but, being a couple of hours ahead of the leaders, he then faced a wait to see the outcome.

Smith turned in 32 with birdies on the first, second, seventh - after a nice approach - and eighth and added further birdies at the 11th, 12th, 15th and 18th to take the clubhouse lead on 16 under.

Despite that, Smith rated his par on the par three 13th hole as one of the key moments of his final day.

“That was massive. It was a really tough two-putt and I sort of smashed it seven foot past but luckily made the one coming back and the whole day, if I got myself out of position I was holing out really well,’’ he added.

Björk joined him with a birdie on the 12th and he held the lead on his own after another on the 15th.

Spaniards Jorge Campillo and Adrian Otaegui joined Bjork in top spot but another gain on the 17th edged Björk ahead and he was left with an anxious wait at 18 under.

A three-putt on the 17th from Otaegui left him and playing partner Matt Wallace both needing eagles up the last to force a play-off, with Otaegui making a birdie to take second place on his own.

Campillo was then third at 16 under alongside the English pair of Smith and Wallace.
