DERRY Hill’s Jordan Smith will have to wait another week to make his first cut of 2018 after missing out at the Dubai Desert Classic.
Smith, who carded a one-over par round of 73 on Thursday, matched his score on day two, leaving him two-over for the tournament and six off the cut.
In his front nine, the 25-year-old dropped three shots with bogies on the par-four second and ninth, as well as the par-three seventh.
A fourth birdie on 12th took his tally to four-over for the day, with six holes left to play.
In those remaining six, Smith did manage to claw back some of the lost ground with a flutter of birdies.
Those came at the par-five 13th and 18th, in addition to the par-three 15th, to bring his score back down to a more respectable one-over.
While his late charge did redeem some pride for the Wiltshire man, it was too little too late as he recorded a tied 124th finish.
