JORDAN Smith tonight pulled out of the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa after enduring a disastrous second day in South Africa in which he carded an eight-over-par round of 80.
The European Open champion, who turned 25 yesterday, had been struggling with tonsillitis during his time in South Africa and revealed he was pulling out of the event after the conclusion of his second round due to illness.
Saddens me to do this but im having to pull out of the Nedbank challenge this week in South Africa @golfatsun due to illness....it’s my first time here and the resort/golf course is second to none and loved my time here #NGC2017

Day one was less than ideal for the Derry Hill man, as he was four over-par going into his second round in Sun City.
Starting on the 10th, Smith got off to a poor start with a bogey six, before settling down into a run of three pars and a birdie three on the 13th.
Smith’s second bogey of the day came on the par-four 15th, before he dropped a further two shots on the par-four 17th before registering a bogey five on the 18th.
The after turn, the Bowood pro recorded five consecutive pars, before undoing his work with three back-to-back bogeys on the par-four sixth and eighth, as well as the par-three seventh.
Thunder and lightning then forced Smith to retreat back to the clubhouse before he could finish his round, however, once the weather cleared up he emerged to score a bogey six on the final hole of the day.
