KINGSDOWN’S Val McFarlane retained the Pakeman Cup on her course as the club staged the WLCGA Senior Ladies County Championships.

Sixty-two ladies representing 15 clubs took part with home knowledge proving to be an advantage as Kingsdown players came first in both the Scratch and Handicap events as well as featuring prominently in the prizes.

McFarlane won and defended the Pakeman Cup with a gross score of 83, while club-mate Jan Scott was one shot further back for second, as Jayne Long (Tidworth Garrison) came third.

The Wadworth Challenge Cup was won by Scott with a net score of 71. Maura Coughlan (Kingsdown) was one shot behind and McFarlane was third.

The winner of the Hutchinson Cup for players 70+ years was Sue Dix (Kingsdown) with last year’s winner Marion Titt (West Wilts) runner up. Third place went to Jean Root (North Wilts).

Nearest to the Pin in Division One at the fourth hole was won by Carol Main (Chippenham).

However, in Division Two, which took place at the 17th hole, proved a tough nut to crack with no-one managing to keep the ball on the green.
