JORDAN Smith’s seamless transition to top-table golf continued today as he made a promising start at the Dubai Desert Classic.

The 24-year-old, who is less than two months into his first season on the European Tour, has made the cut in four of the five events he has completed so far this season and looks to be off to another flier in his sixth at the Emirates Golf Club.

Smith carded a three-under-par opening round of 69 to leave himself tied-15th.

Beginning on the back nine, the Bowood club ace started as he intended to go on with a birdie on the par-five 10th, and Smith encountered no trouble as he made par on the next six holes before finishing his front nine with a flourish.

Successive birdies on the par-four 17th and par-five 18th added some shine to his score at the halfway stage and despite dropping a shot on the par-four second, rising star Smith picked up another birdie on the par-five third as he sauntered home with ease.

He tees off his second round at 3.25am UK time on Friday morning.
