JORDAN Smith has made his first cut on the European Tour despite recording back-to-back double bogies in the Hong Kong Open second round this morning.

Derry Hill’s Smith is playing just his second tournament on the continental circuit’s top-tier after earning his place with victory in the secondary Challenge Tour’s order of merit in 2016.

Smith was in sparkling form in Thursday’s first round, posting a four-under 66, but was unable to keep that going today and had to make do with a three-over 73 for one-under overall.

Spaniard Rafa Cabrerra Bello will take a three-shot lead into the final two rounds after following up his opening six-under 64 with a five-under second round of 65 to reach 11-under.

Teeing off at the 10th hole, Bowood player Smith opened his second round with eight consecutive pars but the wheels began to fall off as he reached the turn as he double bogeyed the 18th – his ninth.

The same outcome followed on the next hole and Smith suddenly found all his good work on Thursday undone as he was back to level par.

Smith was able to claw back a shot with a lone birdie of the day on the third – his 12th – but that was as good as hit got as he finished with six more pars to head into the weekend on one-under overall.
