JORDAN Smith narrowly missed out on his second victory on the European Challenge Tour this season, but had the consolation of storming back to the top of the Road To Oman standings at the Kazakhstan Open.

The Bowood player, the overnight leader heading into the final round at Zhailjau Golf Resort, finished a shot behind Sam Walker, who won his second Tour title of the season in torrential rain.

Walker carded a three under par round of 69, securing his second title in six events after winning the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge in August.

The Birmingham man finished with an 18 under par total after rounds of 69-67-65-69. Just 15 golfers finished their final rounds under par as bad weather made for tricky playing conditions.

Smith, who finished level par on the day, bogeyed the 16th hole and Walker parred his final four holes to secure the €72,000 first prize.

Derry Hill's Smith, who has already wrapped up his card for the full European Tour for 2017, holds a 17,000 point lead in the Road To Oman standings.
