BEN Amor continued his fine recent form as he booked his place into the next round of the Europeam Tour Qualifying School last week.

The 21-year-old finished on six under par at Collingtree Park in Northampton to leave him tied 18th in the first qualifying stage section B.

Making his debut at the event which could eventually end with a European Tour card for next season, Amor was level par after day one and followed up with a one-under 71 the next day.

The Marlborough golfer stepped it up a bit on the final two days as carded scores of 70 and 69 to put him into the second stage and add to his recent success.

“I have been playing quite nicely recently, I’ve had a good couple of results at the last few tournaments and it was nice to feed that through into Q-School,” said Amor, who claimed the English men’s county champion of champions earlier this month.

“It was a slow progression through the week, I didn’t play my best it was more a case that you just need to do enough.

“There were some good quality players playing but you don’t want to play yourself out of it in first two days and that is what I was trying to do.”

Amor now has a wait until the beginning of November to compete in the second stage, where qualification would earn the amateur a Challenge Tour card, but with no tournaments scheduled between now and then, he will be doing all he can to keep fresh.

“It’s about a month away until the next stage so I have got plenty of time to get myself up a level,” he added. “The quality of the field is going to be even better but you can only do what you can do on the day.

“I am going to have a better idea about next year once the next stage is over because if you get through the next stage, you get through to the finals and get some kind of Challenge Tour ranking.

“So, the next stage is the one that I will have a clearer path in my mind after.”
