MARLBOROUGH’S Ben Amor is all smiles and sunshine after he handed himself an early-season confidence-booster by helping the England A team regain the Costa Ballena International Quadrangular tournament title.

The 20-year-old, who was Wiltshire champion and runner-up at the South of England Youth Championships last season, was part of the England side that won the round robin tournament in 2014 and in southern Spain last week.

Amor and five other team-mates saw off Finland, Germany and the host nation to regain the title.

Over the three days, Amor and England beat all of their opponents 7-2 and the Marlborough golf club player is hoping that the outlook is bright after an encouraging return to competitive action.

“Because of the weather, I hadn’t really played since September, so it was a great chance to see where your game is at with a bit of match play – I won five out of six points,” said Amor.

“I beat Spain’s best guy at the tournament and also Max Schmitt, the German who was in Europe’s Junior Ryder Cup team (in 2014).

“A lot of the guys we played against will be in the Portuguese Amateur (on February 10) and the Spanish Amateur (March 2), which I’m going to be in.

“My big aim for the year would be to try and make the World Team Championships (in Mexico, in September) – it’s probably the biggest thing you can do after the Walker Cup.”
