JORDAN Smith will be hoping to maintain his fine form and secure a place on the European Tour when he competes in the final stage of the qualifying school this week.

The Derry Hill golfer, fresh from topping the order of merit in the EuroPro Tour to book a spot on next season’s European Challenge Tour, finished tied 11th in the second stage of the Q School in Valencia on Monday, with an overall score of six-under-par.

The 22-year-old, who secured a multi-year deal sponsorship with Nike in July, will get his opportunity on Saturday to push towards a category 15 European Tour card.

Smith, along with Wrag Barn’s Josh Loughrey and Cumberwell Park’s Laurie Canter, face six rounds of golf in Girona at the PGA Catalunya Resort where a tied 25th place finish or better will earn them a European Tour card.

To book his place in the final stage of Q School, the Bowood Park pro made a fine start on the east coast of Spain, firing a three-round-par round of 69.

The following day, Smith added to his score with a one-under 71 before a second round of 69 left him seven-under overall going into Monday’s finale.

However, Smith was unable to follow up his three previous outings, as he fired a one-over 73, but that was still enough to secure his spot in Girona.

"It would be awesome if I could get my European Tour card," Smith said. "It would mean that I get to play around the world week in, week out with the world's best golfers.

"I have got my Challenge Tour card secured so I can go out and relax a bit.

"I've only had a chance to see one of the courses here and they are looking good, the green look tough, but the set up should suit me.

"I can't quite believe what has had to me this season, it is still sinking in, but I go into this week with confidence."
