CHIPPENHAM Golf Centre professional Kelvin Aitken retained his seniors' crown in the Marston’s West Region PGA championships at Chipping Sodbury.

The 53-year-old carded two rounds of 74 to beat European Seniors Tour player Gary Emerson (Remedy Oak) by one shot, with Peter Garratt (Naunton Downs) third.

Aitken, also a tutor at the South Gloucestershire and Stroud College Golf Academy in Filton, won at The Players Club last year.

He said: “I took a couple of weeks off to practice as I don’t play often, although this has been my second success inside two weeks as Ross McCance and I represented the range in the PGA Four ball Championship at Cardon Park and came second after leading after the first round.

“I shot the best score possible in the second round because the conditions were horrible with increasing winds.

“I chipped and putted well and was delighted with the outcome in the weather.

“I don’t suppose I’ll play again until I defend my title next year.”

Kevin Harper (East Devon) shot 69 and 68 to win the main title.

Tracy Loveys (Bigbury) won the women’s title again by five shots and Toby Hunt (St Mellons) also retained the Turier Scales Assistants Championship.
