WILTSHIRE suffered their second defeat in three Inter-Counties Matchplay Championship matches at South West Week as they were edged out by Devon at the Bristol & Clifton Golf Club today.
Having been beaten by Somerset on Sunday's opening day before drawing with the host county Gloucestershire on Monday, Wiltshire resumed their matchplay challenge following yesterday's English County finals and South West Amateur Championship action.
But despite hefty wins at the top of the singles standings for Marlborough's Dom Baverstock-Seaman, Garry Slade (Bowood) and Tom Law (Broome Manor) and a half from Luke Gorman (Bowood), they ended the morning session trailing 4.5-3.5.
Gorman and Jack Charman (North Wilts) and Law and clubmate James Wiltshire earned foursomes wins in the afternoon, but defeats for vice-captain Ali James (Cumberwell Park) and Slade and skipper Paul Green and Baverstock-Seaman ensured the spoils were shared, alowing Devon to get home by a point 7.5-6.5.
