PAUL Hendriksen raced to his fourth successive Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship Final after winning the qualifying event at Bowood Golf Club.

The Dinnaton Golf Club PGA Professional had only jetted in from Monaco - where he had been watching the Formula One Grand Prix - 36 hours earlier.

But he kept up his excellent record in the event to finish joint top of the leaderboard at the Wiltshire course with first year PGA Professional James Pickard of Honiton Golf Club.

The pair both carded a three under par round of 69 to finish one shot ahead of Giuseppe Licata (Bristol Golf Centre) and Richard Brookman (Creigiau Golf Club).

They will join eight other qualifiers at the £78,700 Peugeot-supported event at Blairgowrie in Scotland on August 5-8.

Hendriksen has won an impressive three of four Glenmuir qualifiers he has played in since qualifying as a PGA Professional.

But the Ivybridge player admitted he was not switched on to his game to start with at the Calne venue.

“I still felt a bit dazed and jet-lagged to be honest, I didn’t get back from Monaco until late on Tuesday,” he admitted.

“But the round got better as it went on and I had a decent back nine.

“I’ve always liked this event as the courses seem to suit me better. I’ve won three and I finished second last year.

“The Grand Prix was a fantastic experience though and it’s the second time I’ve been out there to watch it, I went with my brother Dan who’s also a professional golfer.

“Because of the schedule I perhaps I wasn’t expecting to get the result that I did, but I played it quite nicely.

“Once I’d done enough to qualify, the pressure was off a little bit.”

But Hendriksen has struggled to carry those qualifying performances into the three finals he has played in so far.

“The venues haven’t really suited me and I haven’t done well whenever I’ve got to the final but it would be good to take this sort of form into the event,” he said.

“Maybe I should book a holiday the week before the final!

“But I don’t know anything about Blairgowrie, it’ll be a new experience for me so I’ll have to find out what I can about the course beforehand.”
