Gymnasts from the prestigious Wiltshire School of Gymnastics (WSG) in Melksham again put in excellent performances at the South West Compulsory and BDP Grades Competitions hosted by the club.
The competitions were attended by 87 gymnasts from 18 clubs across the whole of the South West of England.
WSG fielded 2 gymnasts for the Compulsory competition on the Saturday and 7 gymnasts for the BPD competition on the Sunday.
Both squads demonstrated the excellence of WSG's competitive programme walking away with 4 medals and 6 gymnasts being selected to represent South West Region at the National Final Championships in Birmingham in May. This really is a fantastic achievement.
The Wiltshire gymnasts did exceptionally well in all age-groups, looking well prepared and confident during their performances. The gymnasts, who ranged from just 8 years of age up to 14 can all be very proud of their significant achievements in this most demanding and elegant of sports. And once again WSG gymnasts have proven the club's hard-earned reputation as one of the very best clubs for competitive girls' gymnastics in the South West of England.
Saturday saw the Compulsory Level 4 competition, which is for the youngest of gymnasts who turn 9 this year and who are just embarking on a career that could see them represent Great Britain at major championships.

There was a very strong field of gymnasts this year and Helena Humm performed with exceptional style and precision to finish third, winning the bronze medal and ensuring her selection onto the 4-strong competition team to represent the South West at the National Compulsory Championships - a fantastic achievement.
In the Compulsory Level 3 competition, Chloe Daykin, 9, put in her best ever performance finishing in the silver medal position and has therefore also been selected onto the South West team for the May National Compulsory Championships.
These are really well deserved results for both Helena and Chloe who are at the highest level in the sport possible for their ages and who already devote a large part for their young lives to the sport, training up to 6 days a week to reach the level of expertise required to succeed.
The following day saw 7 WSG girls competing in the South West British Development Programme (BDP) Competition and up against 60 other South West gymnasts.
At BDP Grade 4, WSG was represented by Lauren Pocock, 12years, who finished 15th and continues to impress with her continual progression in the sport.
At BDP Grade 3, Rowan Hey, age 11, raced home to clinch the Silver medal with a performance that demonstrated true elegance and also won a place in the South West team for National BDP finals. This is a true achievement as she was up against a strong field of 32 gymnasts and knew she had to compete without any mistakes at all to stand a chance of making the team. Charlotte Cullum, age 11, finished a more than credible 10th and Serena Nelson-Hall, 12years, finished 18th. All three of the gymnasts in this grade also received a distinction for performances of high quality.
At BDP 1, Amelia Yates-Hartnell, 13, finished silver passing with distinction and for the third year in a row earned her place in the South West's 4-strong team for national finals. Hannah Grubb, 12, finished 4th also passing with distinction and making the SW team. Katherine Turner, 14, finished a more than credible 6thmeaning she is reserve for the team. No two gymnasts deserve their National Final places more than Hannah and Katherine who have been so close so many times but small mistakes have always meant they just miss out. Both gymnasts show exceptional commitment in training and along with Amelia are fine role models to our younger gymnasts. It also means that three gymnasts in the BDP 1 team are from WSG is also really excellent achievement for the club.
Finally, the Wiltshire School also hosted a county level BDP competition. This competition is for very young budding gymnasts on grades 6 and 5 and gymnasts who do not wish to compete at a regional level at BDP 4. Again this section of competition saw great success for the Wiltshire School Gymnasts.
In the BDP 6 competition for gymnasts turning 7 this year, Robyn Ellison won Gold, Aurora King won Silver and Anna Murray won Bronze. All three medallists also received distinctions which is excellent as they are a year younger than the recommended entry for this grade. Olivia Harridine placed 4th and Anna Oatley was 5th. At BDP 6 for gymnasts turning 8 this year Megan Neathey won Gold, Lucy Gray Silver, Kara Mackintosh Bronze, Meg O'Donoghue 4th, Danielle Daykin and Anna Gilbert joint 5th and Tianie Newman 7th. All gymnasts at this age performed beautifully and all were awarded distinctions. BDP 6 for gymnasts of 9 yrs, saw Jemima Brown win another gold and pass with distinction. At BDP 5, Isabella Peterson, age 9, passed with ease and secured 4th.place. At BDP 4, Katie Grubb, age 10, passed and won the gold medal - another brilliant achievement.
