OLYMPIC ROWING: Reed claims gold in coxless fours

FORMER Cirencester Deer Park School student Pete Reed has claimed Olympic gold as part of the Great Britain men's heavyweight coxless fours at Eton Dorney this morning.

The British crew, which also included Alex Gregory, Andy Triggs Hodge and Tom James, saw off fierce competition from Australia to retain their Olympic title on home water.

It was Reed's second gold, having triumphed in the GB flagship boat in Beijing four years ago, and he was overwhelmed with emotion at the finish line.

"Double Olympic champion, I can't believe it. The hours we do, the pain and it's all worth it at the end," he told BBC Sport.

"All of us have got people to thank, the support comes from all over the place and we can't do it without them."
