BOWLS: Two through to national stage

JANET Willis and Maureen Woolley are through to the final in the ladies county national singles championship, earning the right to represent Wiltshire at Leamington Spa next month.

They emerged victorious from the latter stages of the singles competition held last weekend at Salisbury.

The earlier singles rounds had thrown up a host of shock results but the two semi-finals proved to be very one-sided affairs.

Willis (Stratton Churchway) beat Spencer Melksham’s Christobel Francis 21-4, who had earlier eliminated Wootton Bassett’s Patricia Murray 21-12 in the quarter-finals.

Woolley (Alderbury), won a tight quarter-final 21-18 against Janet Hardie (Box), then comfortably beat Wilton’s Dawn Toomer 21-8 in the other semi-final.

The Ladies U25 singles semi-finals were also staged at Salisbury and saw the Wootton Bassett duo of Charlie Harding and Joanne Richman successfully qualify for ladies county finals day on Saturday, July 21 and also qualify for Leamington.
