The loss of suspended top scorer Barry Cox will give Dave Byrne food for thought as he ponders his team for Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Cox misses out after accumulating five bookings, and without his 15 goals Swindon’s next highest marksman is Billy Paynter on six.
Byrne insists Cox is far from the finished article, but believes he can go all the way to the top flight.
“Coxy’s been a massive part of the season so far,” said Byrne.
“He’s scored 15 goals and, for me, he’s head and shoulders above any striker in this division.
“He’s got a lot of qualities, he’s still got some rough edges that need to be worked on - the way he talks to referees, hence the reason why he’s suspended.
“But he’s got quality about him and only one thing in his mind - he wants to score goals.
“He wants to be the best, he wants to play at the highest level, and his attitude and work ethic are second to none.
“He’ll be a big, big loss and I’m just glad it’s only for one game.”
With Cox banned, Barry Corr could make his first league start of the season, with Ben Joyce and Blair Sturrock vying for a place on the substitutes’ bench.
Corr scored the dramatic equaliser against Leicester City last weekend and has begged Byrne for a starting place to show what he can do.
But Byrne revealed he is yet to finalise his team selection, saying: “It’s a case of do I stick with the same 11 bar Coxy? Or do I make one or two changes because it’s a local derby? I’ll be contemplating that over the next 24 hours.
“Joycey and Blair are probably the two closest players to the Coxy mould. I’ve then Billy (Paynter) and Barry which is another option, so there’s good options.”
