SWINDON Robins must have their gating gloves on tonight if they’re to collect any points in their latest SGB Premiership contest at Leicester Lions, according to team manager Alun Rossiter.

Rossiter’s men started their Premiership campaign in fine style last week and already top the table having raced just two meetings.

A shock 14-point win at Poole Pirates on Wednesday was followed up by a six-point home victory against a fast-looking King’s Lynn Stars outfit at the Abbey Stadium 24 hours later.

However the Robins will need to adjust their race tactics at Beaumont Park as Rossiter anticipates a ‘gate and go’ meeting with few passing opportunities.

He said: “Leicester is a gating track. If you don’t gate, you struggle.

“It’s all one line around there unfortunately. I know they’ve tried to change it, but it hasn’t worked.

“We’ll have to have our trapping gloves on like we did at Poole.”

Swindon’s latest fixture against the Lions comes 11 days after both teams met at the Abbey Stadium for what should’ve been the Robins’ first Premiership contest of the season.

The meeting was abandoned, though, after heavy mist that built up prior to the first heat left the track damp and resulted in a nasty crash, which saw Lions’ number one Martin Vaculik hospitalised with an ankle injury.

Vaculik’s injury has forced the Lions to make a pair of team changes ahead of tonight’s meeting, as Danish racer Kenneth Bjerre fils the number one spot, while Todd Kurtz comes in for Michael Palm Toft.

The Robins, meanwhile, will be without David Bellego, who has been granted compassionate leave.

Rossiter’s men otherwise travel north full on confidence following a string of positives performances away from the Abbey Stadium.

Australian Nick Morris registered a full maximum for Lakeside Hammers in their meeting against Redcar Bears on Friday, while in the same meeting, Adam Ellis dropped just one point from four rides.

Reserve Mitchell Davey has also been adding to his points tally by recording a five ride 15-point maximum at Stoke Potters on Sunday in the National League while representing Birmingham Brummies.
