SWINDON Robins’ David Bellego says he and his teammates remain unconcerned despite the weather further curtailing their season.

Alun Rossiter’s side were due to kick-start their SGB Premiership title defence at home to Leicester Lions last Thursday, before the meeting was abandoned after the first heat.

The fixture with the Lions had already been rescheduled once and after it was called off it meant Swindon had only been out twice since the season started a month ago.

With only one home meeting under their belts so far, Bellego admits it is less than ideal as they look to capitalise on home advantage.

“We want to get on the track, it is our home track, we didn’t manage to ride against Leicester – I’m not going to say it feels like an away meeting, but it feels a bit fresh for us as well,” said Bellego.

“So, if we can, we’d like to spend more time on the track, but hopefully the weather will be better over the next few weeks.

“I did think there was a chance that the meeting would go ahead, but I am feeling lucky that I didn’t go out on the track.

“We didn’t expect the track to be how it was, when we had the track walk it wasn’t like what it was afterwards because the moisture came down.

“There was nothing we can do about it, it’s just the way it is. Hopefully the two riders are alright.”

Along with the rest of Rossiter’s side, Bellego has kept himself ticking over by riding for his other teams, including Poznan in Poland, and says it is important his teammates race as frequently as possible.

“It’s important that us as riders are busy, we want to be busy.

“It’s been pretty quiet in the UK at the moment, but hopefully we can kick on from here, “I’ve been busy riding, I rode in Poland last week but it seems to be the first time that we have had a quiet start like this in England.

“Poland has been really good so far, I had a good year over there last year as well so I’m hoping to have another big year here and over there.”
