THE end of the January transfer window remains a ‘24/7’ concern for David Flitcroft, although the Swindon Town boss admits the imminent return of two existing squad members may have allowed him to rein back his mid-season recruitment drive.

Flitcroft certainly isn’t ruling out more arrivals at the club, while admitting current members of his squad are also attracting interest, with the balance of his options remaining his primary concern as he prepares for the run-in of the league campaign.

The manager was due to watch on-loan midfielder Timi Elsnik plays for Derby U23s against Birmingham at the FA’s St George’s Park today, as the Slovenian nears a comeback from the injury that has sidelined him since November.

On-loan defender Chris Hussey, who has been missing since September, is also close to availability after hernia surgery, potentially adding further manpower for Town’s final 19 games of the regular season.

“We’ll shake the squad down and do the evaluation of the squad and see if there are any new injuries. At the minute we look good,’’ said Flitcroft, after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Coventry City, which kept Town in 10th position.

“We’ll keep out eye on both ins and outs. People certainly want our players and it’s a case of making sure the balance is right.

“It goes right up to the window (shutting). We still meet players, still talk to agents. We’re just on call 24/7.

“Ray (Murphy), our club secretary, will do the paperwork if there are any ins or outs and that’s how most football clubs will operate. It’s a busy period but we’ve done some really good business.

“The Keshi Anderson deal took about three weeks to get over the line, the Marc Richards one probably about 10 days so these deals do take time when other teams are interested in the players that you are after.

“There will be plenty of movement in that last week. There will be a scramble like there always is, but luckily we’ve done some good business.’’ Ollie Banks, who netted his first club goal in the Ricoh Arena loss, and Marc Richards, who debuted off the bench on Saturday, are the new faces to arrive so far, with Town also wrapping up forward Keshi Anderson on a permanent deal.

Flitcroft added: “You’re always looking to improve. I brought Ollie Banks in and I think he makes us better. He’s a quality player and a quality signing and someone I’ve been wanting to work with for quite a while.

“Marc Richards is someone who has just come into the building and we’ll see the best out of him as the season develops. Keshi has been made a permanent signing because of the work he’s done this season.

“I think (there is) good news on the injury front in terms of Timi Elsnik. I’m going to watch him at St Georges against Birmingham. I’ll probably have him in and around next week. It’s a fantastic player to come back and Chris Hussey will come into the fold if that goes to plan.

“So I think that thinking allowed me to probably come away from a possible couple of targets because we will have the players back.’’
