STRIKER Sammie Szmodics has been the leading light for Colchester this season and can boast an impressive goals return of one every other game.

The 22-year-old has netted nine times in 18 matches in all competitions so far in 2017-18 but has been particularly impressive over the last couple of weeks, with four goals in his last five matches.

Szmodics struck twice last time out as the U’s claimed a fine 3-1 victory at home to promotion chasing Exeter City.

Colchester had a big hole to fill when Szmodics was forced to sit out the whole of October with an ankle injury but he has hit the ground running on his return to form, with John McGreal’s side having picked up 10 of a possible 15 league points since his comeback.

COLCHESTER United have discovered a new stubbornness at the back in recent weeks, having finished with clean sheets three times in their last five matches.

With Luke Norris out injured, Town will look to Keshi Anderson for goals tonight.

Crystal Palace loanee Ryan Inniss usually features in the centre of Colchester’s three-man defence but faces a test against Anderson, who has netted in Town’s last two league matches.
