SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft has urged the club’s supporters to show patience with the team as he looks to set right a disappointing run of results.

Town are currently on a four-match losing streak, including defeats that saw them knocked out of both the FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy over the past week, and face a tough test on their return to action today when they travel to League Two high fliers Accrington Stanley.

Flitcroft oversaw a seven-game unbeaten sequence before this current dip in form, six of which were victories, so things are far from bleak at the Energy Check County Ground with Town still sitting eighth in the table and only outside the play-off places on goal difference.

However, Flitcroft does understand fans’ frustrations at recent results and has asked them to stand by the side while he does everything in his power to get them back on the right path.

“I would say to the fans ‘just stick with it’,” said Flitcroft.

“We are trying to improve and we are still trying to build. We now can concentrate and focus on the league form and make sure we get the answers at home and continue to do the work we have been doing away from home.

“We are going to make sure the players know what it means to the supporters to get back on the winning track.

“I want to put this 10 days behind us and move forward. We can look back and keep going over what has happened but I want to look forward with this group and, with the January window coming up as well, improve our points total in the league.”

Town travel to the Wham Stadium this afternoon boasting an impressive away record as they have won nine of 14 matches on their travels in all competitions this term but Flitcroft says the mood in the camp is only likely to be lifted by another positive result.

Although the challenge ahead of them is a stiff one against third-placed Accrington, the Swindon boss says he will never stop seeking new ways to make marginal gains within his squad.

“Belief will come from doing the right things, belief will come from defending properly, belief will come from making sure you are finishing your chances in training and working at your game and committing to each other,” said Flitcroft.

“That’s where belief and confidence will come from, if you keep doing the right things.

“I have never known anyone do less and improve so we will be doing more to make sure we give ourselves the best opportunity to win a football match against one of the top teams in the league.”
