STEVENAGE midfielder Ben Kennedy has put pen to paper on a new contract with the club.

The 20-year-old winger came through the academy at the Lamex Stadium and has made 93 appearances for the club since making his debut in early 2015.

Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: “Ben is settled and really happy here, so we are delighted to extend his contract another year.

“He is the first in a crop of exceptional youngsters we have coming through the system.”

  • ANOTHER player to agree fresh terms with his club this week is young Cheltenham Town striker George Lloyd.

The 17-year-old is currently a member of the Robins’ academy and this new deal is his first professional contract at Whaddon Road.

Lloyd joined Cheltenham’s academy at the age of nine and made his senior debut earlier this season in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Robins manager Gary Johnson said: “He’s got a good footballing brain that is ahead of his years.”

  • BOTTOM side Chesterfield have signed Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson on an emergency loan deal until January.

The Spireites were left in need of a keeper after regular number one Joe Anyon broke his arm in the Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Fleetwood Town earlier this week.

Dawson could make his Chesterfield debut in Saturday’s home game against fellow strugglers Barnet.

  • CREWE Alexandra defender George Ray has stepped up his workload on the road to recovery from a serious back injury.

Ray has been out of action since fracturing his back in the Alex’s clash against Yeovil Town back in April but the 24-year-old has now started training again.

Crewe boss David Artell said: “He has been out on the grass (training) for the first time.

“He can now run basically with the forces of nature pushing down through his spine, so that’s now going to start the rehab process of him getting fit without him being strapped to a pair of shorts on a treadmill.

“We are treating him with kid gloves because we don’t want him to fracture his back again and be out for another nine months. It will be after Christmas until he is fit.”
