DAVID Flitcroft has rejected the notion that he faces a difficult decision over his starting left-back, should Chris Hussey’s return to fitness be confirmed for today’s League Two clash at Yeovil Town (3pm).

Having featured throughout Town’s training sessions this week, Hussey was set to thrust himself back into contention provided he showed no ill-effects from this week’s work for the trip to face the Glovers.

The on-loan Sheffield United ace has missed the last 11 games because of a groin problem, having started the first 11 fixtures of the season since his temporary summer switch from Bramall Lane.

Taylor meanwhile, stepped in as a substitute when Hussey pulled up at Forest Green Rovers in September, netting with a long-range drive to wrap up that 2-0 win and adding a further strike with a tasty free-kick in the 3-0 win at Port Vale late last month.

Flitcroft faces a choice over who to start, should Hussey be ship-shape for action, but the manager sees no dilemma when it comes to his selection.

“Those decisions are always easy,’’ said the County Ground chief.

“It’s based on the football plan, who we’re playing. Do we need a different type of left-back?

“They are both different. One is a real overlapping full-back where Matty Taylor will sit and support and deliver from a deeper angle.

“If we feel we can get in behind a team - and that’s an overlapping run that will allow that to happen - then we’ve got Chris Hussey.

“We’ve got a squad here and they all understand there is a football reason why they are playing or not. I always explain that to them.

“Out of respect and out of honesty, I always tell a player why he might or might not be playing.

“It will always involve a football decision. We’re lucky enough at the football club now to have a squad of players - I think in the past it’s been a team - all in the same direction, wanting the same thing and committing to that.’’
