SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft conceded his side lacked a cutting edge at either end of the pitch after falling to a late 1-0 defeat at home to Lincoln City last night.

Sean Raggett’s header seven minutes from time was enough to snatch the points for the Imps at the Energy Check County Ground and hand Town a fourth home defeat from seven matches in League Two.

Town were well below their best in the first half but managed to hold off an early siege from Lincoln.

Flitcroft was able to rally his troops at the interval and they came out much improved in the second but failed to make that tell on the scoreboard before falling to Raggett’s sucker-punch late on.

“I am absolutely gutted, certainly with the result,” said Flitcroft.

“In the first half, Lincoln got at us very early and it was a very intense performance from them.

“We got in at half-time on level ground and we spoke to the players and changed things up a little bit.

“In the second half we completely dominated and created a lot of chances but, certainly at home, we are not ruthless in both boxes and that has absolutely cost us with the goal.

“We are putting ourselves up for chances but it’s not a technical detail as to why we are not scoring.

“Keshi (Anderson) had a lot of chances, Amine (Linganzi) had a good chance, Matt Preston had a header, Olly (Lancashire) had a clear header from a set-piece – if that’s Raggett, he scores that.

“I am bitterly disappointed with the result but we had a lot of the ball with a lot of purpose in the second half and, certainly from the left-hand side, created a lot of opportunities.”

Although Flitcroft was pleased to see a strong response from this side in the second half after a lacklustre opening to the game, that was of scant consolation to the Town boss come the final whistle after another disappointing result on home soil.

“Lincoln played with a real intensity in the first half. I said I didn’t believe they could keep that up but we had to play with a calmer personality in the second half,” said Flitcroft.

“We got the ball down and switched it really well, we got the ball wide early and got Luke Norris and Keshi combining really well.

“We have got enough in that last third to create problems but we didn’t score that all important goal and we have suffered because of that.”
