SWINDON Wildcats narrowly missed out a perfect first weekend of the new NIHL South season although had the consolation of securing a third point in a 3-2 overtime defeat at Invicta Dynamos this evening.

Aaron Nell’s side needed penalties to beat Milton Keynes Thunder at home on Saturday night after their campaign opener ended 3-3 and they were involved in another equally close contest against Invicta at Silver Blades in Gillingham.

Swindon fell behind midway inside the first period when Ondrej Zosiak fired Dynamos ahead but Sam Zajac’s strike 25 seconds before the buzzer sounded ensured the sides headed back to the locker room all-square.

Just a solitary goal arrived in the second period as Sam Bullas edged the visitors in front and almost 20 minutes had passed before there was any further addition to the scoreboard as Callum Fowler levelled things up for the home side to send the match to overtime.

Invicta came roaring out of the blocks in the extra period and needed just nine seconds of the additional five minutes to snatch the win courtesy of Bobby Chamberlain’s strike.
