HE may be more ‘cool hand Luke’ in front of goal so far this season, but that didn’t stop Swindon Town striker Luke Norris still admitting to a sense of relief that his lengthy wait for a home win was ended by the 3-2 success against Stevenage.

Unlike the majority of his teammates, Norris at least had previous experience of victory on the County Ground turf, having stepped off the bench for Town’s last triumph at their own home against Millwall back in March.

Swindon had yet to even lead a match at home this term but that all changed as Norris demonstrated a poacher’s instinct at the far post to open the scoring on nine minutes and calmly dispatch a second-half penalty for Town’s third after setting up fellow frontman Keshi Anderson for his side’s second.

“I think it’s a massive relief for us, a first win here since March, so it’s been a long coming, even from the back end of last year,’’ said the 24-year-old, who was signed for a six-figure sum from Gillingham more than 12 months ago.

“It’s a long time to go without winning on your own patch and it’s desperately what we’ve needed with our good start away from home.

“I’m hoping now we can continue it and take it into our next home games.’’

Norris had netted from the spot at Luton seven days earlier and was unerring again in front of the Town End for his third successful penalty of the season, even if he did admit his bundled-in opener probably gave him more satisfaction.

“I’ve always enjoyed it (penalty-taking). I think 12 yards out you shouldn’t really miss. You pick your side, your stick with it and if it’s a good enough connection, unless the keeper makes an unbelievable save, you should score.

“I’ve gone a different way every time now. I know keepers and their coaches do their research and it’s almost a guessing game for them now.’’

As for what part of his anatomy connected for the first goal, he added: “I’m not really sure. It’s goals you almost enjoy a bit more, you take it however it comes and you’ve just got to get on the end of things and (Chris) Hussey’s delivery is fantastic.

“He seems to put it in the right areas all the time so I’m just happy to get a goal nice and early.

“Look at the Crawley and Barnet games - there were chances where we could have scored first and the game is probably a totally different game so today we took our chances early on and it showed it was enough for us to get the win.’’
