SWINDON Robins skipper Jason Doyle will lead the side’s quest for individual domestic honours at the SGB Premiership Riders’ Championship this evening.

The Robins are vying for trophies on two fronts as a team in 2017, having taken a narrow lead in their Premiership play-off semi-final against Poole Pirates on Monday before also putting themselves in pole position to reach the Knockout Cup final after inflicting a heavy defeat on Belle Vue Aces in the first leg of their last-four clash on Thursday.

Doyle will look to replicate the excellent form he has shown on team duty for Alun Rossiter’s side when he goes for solo glory tonight, with the Swindon captain joined in the line-up for the Riders’ Championship by fellow Australian Nick Morris.

The duo will take on two riders from each of the other seven top-flight clubs in the competition at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium.

Morris said: “We’re heading into a big part of the season, and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’ve got some important meetings both individually and for Swindon so it’s an exciting few weeks ahead.

“Hopefully I can ride well and do a good job. When it comes to the Premiership Riders’ Championship, anything can happen in those sorts of meetings.

“It all depends who is going well on the day, so if things come together on the night then I should be able to do well.

“It’s been a good season for me, I’ve been pleased with how it’s gone so I just need to try and finish it off now.”

Wolverhampton Wolves skipper Fredrik Lindgren will defend the title he won under the former Elite League banner at Coventry last season, with the British challenge likely to be led by Belle Vue’s Craig Cook.

Doyle is a previous winner of the event, having triumphed as a Leicester Lions rider on his former home track in 2015, with the last Robins rider to lift the trophy being Troy Batchelor at King’s Lynn a year earlier.
