SWINDON Town midfielder James Dunne is set to come back into contention for Saturday's League Two clash against his former club Stevenage after recovering from the effects of a stomach bug in midweek.

Dunne missed Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at Notts County after being taken ill in the hours prior to kick-off, but trained with the squad today as manager David Flitcroft set about preparing for the weekend fixture.

The 27 year old made 55 appearances for Stevenage between 2012-14, scoring five goals with Flitcroft revealing he was back among the rest of the players ahead of the meeting with the Boro.

Speaking after today's training, Flitcroft said: "James Dunne has trained today and we're going to study his data after training.

"He was probably not 100 per cent, but back to himself and he got rehydrated and got some food in him. He's done a good session today.''

The Town boss and his staff are also trying to line up some reserve team outings in which to try out players recovering from injury.

Midfielder John Goddard (foot) and  full-back Kyle Knoyle (knee) are two such players, with Goddard unable to play since the opening-day win at Carlisle while West Ham youngster Knoyle has yet to feature at all since signing in the transfer window.

Reserve team fixtures in the Central League don't get under way for Town until the end of next month, but the manager has been pursuing other avenues to get some further game time for players.

"Johnny Goddard was on the grass with ball contact today, (doing) left and right take-offs and he's just not in contact with the rest of the group,'' added Flitcroft.

"But he's certainly doing more work on the grass.

"Kyle Knoyle has come through his first full contact session today. Kyle looks good. He's obviously had lots of time in the gym and lots of time running and non-contact because of the injury site.

"But Kyle has come through it today and I'm delighted with how Kyle has progressed really.''

"We're looking at getting a couple of reserve games in the next couple of weeks, behind closed doors.

"We spoke to quite a few local teams to try and get that fixed up so that's what we're working on, just to make sure players are ready when they do come in and are available and ready to go when that need arises.''
