DAVID Flitcroft says the club are now entering a period where Swindon Town could sign players that they weren’t in a position to at the start of the summer.

With the new season less than a fortnight away, the new County Ground boss has brought in nine new faces.

Yet despite the additions of Paul Mullin, James Dunne, Harry Smith, Chris Robertson, Chris Hussey, Ben Purkiss, Olly Lancashire, Amine Linganzi and Donal McDermott, Flitcroft says he would like to bring in at least three new faces to help the team cope with playing six games in the opening month of the campaign.

Although Flitcroft feels Town could find a gem that has yet to be tied down by another club, he won’t change his criteria for signing a new player.

“I have maintained all the way through, I only want players who want to sign for us, who want to commit to Swindon Town and that is what we have worked really hard on,” the Town manager told BBC Wiltshire.

“But I am seeing a slackening from football clubs that have taken players on tours, come back and realised that they might not be for them.

“There definitely is a period now where I feel that players that we possibly couldn’t have got a few weeks ago, and out of contract players as well, players who have waited that little bit longer, will be potentially out there to sign for Swindon Town.

“We are still short (in numbers), especially when you look at that opening month of fixtures.

“It is really important that we keep going with our potential recruitment and working away with that.”

One players who has been reportedly on Flitcroft’s radar this summer is Wigan striker Kaiyne Woolery.

The 22-year-old helped Forest Green Rovers secure promotion to the Football League with two goals in the National League play-off final during his loan spell last term.

However, despite the links to the forward, the Town chief would not be drawn on any potential interest in the player.

“Kaiyne is fantastic player, he is lightning quick, but he is currently Wigan’s player,” Flitcroft said.

“I have got too much respect for Paul Cook and David Sharpe, the chairman of Wigan to comment on that because he is Wigan’s player, but again he is someone who is a fantastic player.
